We live in a world that is constantly changing, but it was always so. Mankind has always depended on water, but, has created dependency on other things, for example energy. But whilst dependent on water, we are even today at the mercy of water when it is controlled by the elements of nature, as was shown with the Tsunami in late 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in September 2005.

There was time when mankind had little more than his bare hands to hunt with and protect his family with against predators. But his ingenuity was boundless and today the threat to mankind, the physical threat, comes not from wild animals, themselves perhaps only hunting for food, but from mankind himself. Even today’s antiquated weapons have a destructive power of awesome proportions and the most sophisticated scare even those who have them for their own defence. But such weapons will never be dis-invented, they, and their even more power successors, will always be with us.

But mankind does not need to hunt for food today, an idealist with absolutely no pragmatism at all would ask why anyone needs any weapons, indeed they do! But we do still need weapons. It was James Wolsey, once of the CIA, who said, “there will always be a maverick nation” and indeed there will and that is why weapons will always be needed. Needed to protect mankind in just the same way that they were needed against the wild animal predators thousands of years ago. But now against the despot, the dictator, the maverick.

But mankind learnt early on that if he had a fire, it would keep the wild animals at bay, they would not attack and thus he defended himself without bloodshed. Deterrence at work. This website tells you about Shield at work.
